Don’t get frustrated—reverse engineer it to see what the issue could possibly be. When you start with the end in mind, you can see the obstacles, the things you forgot to do or whatever the impediment might be.
Case in point is digestion.
Yeah, I know. Not a sexy subject. Who wants to talk about pooping? EEK!
Or gas, or burping, feeling bloated, being constipated or having diarrhea for heaven’s sake.
YET—how many times is this the issue?
How often do you feel like the meat you just ate is just sitting there in your stomach, almost like you just swallowed the iron skillet you just cooked it in?
Or you’ve had to excuse yourself from the table because, well…you know!
Maybe being “regular” to you means every other day or worse…I could go on and on.
The point is, ALL of this affects your weight loss in a huge, HUGE way!
If you can’t digest your food properly, not only are you not getting the full nutrition out of the meal you just ate, you’re also making your body work overtime just to process what’s going on.
Women especially, need to know that your body’s ability to produce enough digestive enzymes is declining. Men have this issue too, but it is much more pronounced in women.
It’s a serious problem—because you are what you digest, NOT what you eat!
When we are in our optimal youth, our own digestive enzymes break down our food into vital proteins, fats, and carbohydrates to provide the needed nutrition for the body. But with aging (and illness), the body’s digestive functions deteriorate, leading to all the aforementioned woes, plus nutritional deficiencies, and even inflammatory conditions.
That’s why using digestive enzymes can be a game changer—that little assistance with your meals can make the difference between feeling normal or feeling like a bloated version of yourself.
Another way to help your digestive track is by taking a probiotic every morning. Probiotics give your body the beneficial bacteria it needs to maintain a healthy gut. Antibiotics, stress, too much sugar, etc. can lead to an imbalance in your gut flora—and that could mean the bad guys are winning and therefore, making your life miserable with bloating and the like.
A good probiotic will help to digest fermenting foods in your gut and boost your ability to metabolize your food and again, get more nutrition out of it.
Additionally, studies have shown that probiotics may actually help the immune system—great news for those of us who struggle with autoimmune conditions!
Personally, I’ve noticed since beginning my mornings with a probiotic, that my tummy is flatter and I feel a lot more energetic—I trace that back to giving my body what it needs to do it’s job!
And the last thing you need to examine in your diet is how much fiber you’re getting on a daily basis.
Your mother was right! Fiber is good for you!
The average American gets a paltry 15 grams of fiber a day. The recommended amount for women is 25; for men it’s 38 grams—more than double!
Fiber not only fills you up and greatly assists in appetite control, it’s the ultimate trash collector—it takes out all the garbage and helps you with that often elusive “regularity”.
Adding an additional 10 grams of fiber to your diet is easy—especially if you drink smoothies in the morning for breakfast! This habit alone will take care of the fiber equation needed in your life—organic berries, additional fiber from FiberMender 2.0, chia seeds and Perfect Paleo Protein—there you go, 10 grams right there. It’s a tasty way to keep things humming along, if you know what I mean!
It’s a 3 prong approach: adequate fiber, actively adding probiotics to your diet to keep the war on your gut health in the winning category, and assisting your body with digestion by using digestive enzymes.
I’ve created my own Gut Check package just for you because this is exactly what I use. This is exactly what flattened out my tummy, helped me drop the weight (and avoid plateaus!) and the bonus? My skin has never looked so good!
