Hi, I’m Leanne Ely—the creator of SavingDinner.com, the first menu planning website on the Internet.

I’ve written 10 books (one a NYT bestseller), lost over 70 pounds, overcome a debilitating autoimmune condition, and like any other human on the planet, have struggled with relationships, financial decisions, and the day-to-day dilemmas we all face.

Yep, all of the above.

And before I tell you how I finally solved this problem myself, let me first tell you about MY problem.

I was a goal-setting junkie.

I was a planner/journal addict.

Add to that, that I’m a reader and hooked on personal development books—I read them constantly. Well almost—I usually abandon them in the middle or go just to the chapters I want to read.

All of this adds up to SCATTERED—crazy, all over the place, bouncing off the walls…absolutely exhausting.
And did I mention Frustrating, capital F?

So while goals are the plumb line in my life, it’s my planner/journal that I used as my compass to reach them.
But I struggled with the path they led me down—it was never enough or alas, too much!

As I started the search for (yet again) a new journal/planner for next year, I realized a number of things:

  • If a journal has a website requiring me to log in and step-by-step video instructions to teach you how to use it, it’s way too complicated and I won’t end up using it.
  • If a journal asks me to do something in it morning and night, it won’t happen and I’ll end up abandoning it because I’m doing it “wrong.”
  • If a journal is just for planning my days and making sure appointments and business trips are on the calendar, I’ll lose sight of my goals.
  • If a journal is a year-long, my goals get lost and I forget about them.
  • If a journal is a year-long, it’s also overwhelming.

That was JUST last year!

And when I calculate how much I spent on these journal/planners and the time I invested trying to learn how to use them, multiplied by many years…

I could take a trip around the world, first-class!

So back to this year—I stopped the madness of trying to find the “perfect” planner and made my own.

I took everything that I liked and everything that worked from my previous journaling experiences and removed everything that didn’t help me further my goals.

I simplified it big time.

I wrapped intentions into it because science shows us that when we set an intention; our brains respond and look for ways to make it happen. I wholeheartedly believe this—Wayne Dyer famously said, “Our intention creates our reality.”

I added a sprinkling of gratitude and path correction in there so I could see incrementally how I was doing—this is key to breaking out of old habits that don’t serve us.

AND I made my journal/planner 90 days long because 90 days is manageable and doable.
