Organic Food Delivery
By Leanne Ely C.N.C
Trying to eat local but finding it hard to fit a quick shopping trip in the schedule? More and more local farms are delivering! Hop onto Google and search: “local fresh produce” and “your city and state.” You will be happily surprised with what you can find right in your own backyard.
Most local organic farms will gladly deliver predetermined boxes of fresh produce on a monthly, weekly, or biweekly basis (or have it available for pick up at the farm) It’s called Community Supported Agriculture (CSA’s) and these folks sell what they call “shares” every season; for a set price, you get your fresh grown local organic produce every week. True, you usually don’t get the ability to pick out what you want, but it is like a produce treasure chest every week to see what fun stuff is in your basket.
If you have specific food allergies, just talk to the supplier. They typically can offer substitutions and are often very compliant to fit their plan to yours. Here are a few websites you can check to find someone in your area: http://www.greenling.com, http://www.localharvest.org, http://www.planetorganics.com. Just enter your zip code and go from there! And if you can’t find a local farm through the sites I listed, google it anyway–you might find something not listed.
