Healthy Halloween Treats Kids Will Love
by Leanne Ely, CNC
Trick or treat?
Candy may be the norm when the kids come to your door on Halloween, but it’s definitely a trick. Candy’s trick will demote your health and your energy and keep you wanting more and more. It’s the sugar, it’s addicting as heroin!
The notion of candy being a treat for Halloween instills this idea that we allow and even encourage our children to keep eating and eating until their gigantic garbage bag filled with sweets has been consumed.
You might want to give out pencils this year instead of the dreaded candy. You can buy fun pencils fairly inexpensively at dollar stores and give one out per bag. Another idea is to give out stickers–same deal, just cut sheets of them up and give each child two. What kid doesn’t love stickers?
And if you happen to have some kids over to the house, let the kids make a few Halloween treats this year. Go out to a grocery store and buy some good dark chocolate, a few pretzels, raisins, craisins, and raw nuts of your choice and let the kids go crazy covering everything with chocolate.
Lastly, make some homemade pumpkin bread and pumpkin pie. Opt for whole wheat pastry flour and make your own crust. Who says pumpkin needs to stay in its shell? Enjoy!
