Including a scoop of protein powder in your daily diet can boost your immune system and promote healthy skin while improving muscle strength and muscle development (and no, you won’t look grotesque like a body builder on steroids!). Protein is required to regulate metabolism and hormones.

Our muscles and tissues are built with protein and because the human body can’t store extra protein, you need a steady supply on a consistent basis.

Adequate protein in your diet is second only to your body’s need for water. Let’s think about that for a minute!

Now, are you getting enough protein?

Your protein requirement depends on how much you weigh and how old you are. If you’re an adult, you need .66 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day. (To find your weight in kgs, divide your weight in pounds by 2.2.)

This means if you weigh 150 pounds (68 kgs) then your body requires 46.3 grams of protein each day.

Best sources for protein

Your best sources of protein are going to come from animals. A 6-ounce steak is going to provide you with 42 grams of protein.

Some other excellent sources of protein…

Tuna: 40 grams per 6-ounce can
Chicken breast: 30 grams per 3.5-ounce serving
Pork loin: 29 grams per 4-ounce serving
Hamburger patty: 28 grams per 4-ounce serving
Fish fillet: 22 grams per 3.- ounce serving
Cottage cheese: 15 grams per 0.5 cup
Yogurt: 8–10 grams per cup (check your label)
Almonds: 9 grams per 0.25 cup
Pumpkin seeds: 8 grams per 0.25 cup
Flax seeds: 8 grams per 0.25 cup
Milk: 8 grams per cup
Eggs: 6 grams per egg

My favorite way to get protein in first thing is with my morning smoothie. And because the protein part is so important, I changed up our smoothie mix to an all new line of protein powders.
