Get Out Those Blenders!

For years I’ve been making smoothies for breakfast as the ultimate ‘breakfast in a glass’. They’re fast and easy to make, offer a lot of nutrition, and really help start your day right.

When I went to Ireland for two weeks, I was unable to have my go-to breakfast in a glass and felt somewhat out of whack. Now that I’m back and blending away, I’ve begun to appreciate smoothies for the exceptional nutritional therapy they offer and that they’re not just for breakfast either. Today I had one for lunch as well! When you consider all the nutritional value in a smoothie, why not?

But back to the whole bit on “nutritional therapy”.  Smoothies are opportunities for all kinds of good stuff to get in your gullet. I put tons of good stuff in mine and as I drink it, I smile knowing how much good this is doing my body. Afterward, I feel energized, full (but not Thanksgiving type of full), and ready to take on the world. I’m sold on the power of this drink for both dealing with nutritional needs and at the same time, dealing with body clutter.

That said, it occurs to me that a smoothie can also be a sort of fallback or plan b kinda meal if you’re out of time, ingredients, and just want to get it done. That’s how we end up in drive-thrus, right? We’re just plain out of time, ingredients and just need to “get ‘er done”. The thing is when you fall back to a smoothie, you’re winning every time—no guilt necessary!

So here’s your assignment this week. Plan on doing a smoothie for at least one meal a day this week. Don’t worry; I’ll show you how. I had a Facebook friend chat with me today telling me that since she started having a smoothie once a day, she’s lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks effortlessly! Wow, you can’t beat that!

Here’s my newest version of the smoothie:

1 scoop of Perfect Paleo Protein (any flavor, my favorite is chocolate!)
1/3 cup frozen organic blueberries
1/4 cup frozen organic raspberries
1/4 cup frozen papaya chunks
1/4 cup coconut milk (you can buy this canned at Trader Joe’s or a health food store)
1/2 cup coconut water (at the grocery store in the energy drink dept)
1 squirt of local honey (optional, but I’m off my allergy meds!)
water as necessary

Put everything in the blender and let ‘er rip. I blend for a good couple of minutes to make sure everything is completely blended.

Drink up!

This is the perfect time to take your vitamins/supplements. They go down easier and make you feel virtuous doing so many good things for yourself. 🙂

Enjoy!
